Awesome Or Off-Putting: The Tunguska BlastDecember 1st, 2008 at 17:00 by Shawn Lindseth Awesome or Off-Putting is a weekly delve into cryptozoology, ufology, aliens, medical marvels, scientific wonders, secret societies, government conspiracies, cults, ghosts, EVPs, myths, ancient artifacts, religion, strange facts, odd sightings or just the plain unexplainable. The Tunguska Blast may not have been a big deal had Bruce Willis been alive to save the world from it. Well, we say the world, but really we mean over 80 million trees, a bunch of wildlife, and definitely anyone who was out jogging in 1908 Russia miles away from the closest anything at all.You see, on June 30, 1908 in Russia there was a huge explosion way out in the middle of nowhere. It leveled 2,150 square kilometres (830 square miles) of trees - and for the longest time nobody knew what happened. Even after all this time nobody’s absolutely sure - but science has a pretty good idea. And they don’t think it was a temporary miniature black hole, an exploding alien space ship or Paul Bunyan with something to prove. The Tunguska Blast was a major catastrophe in Russian history, one that can only be solved with educated scientific guesses and endless hypotheses. And eyewitness reports like this one from a person named Chuchan of Shanyagir tribe:“We had a hut by the river with my brother Chekaren. We were sleeping. Suddenly we both woke up at the same time. Somebody shoved us. We heard whistling and felt strong wind. Chekaren said, ‘Can you hear all those birds flying overhead?’ We were both in the hut, couldn’t see what was going on outside. Suddenly, I got shoved again, this time so hard I fell into the fire. I got scared. Chekaren got scared too. We started crying out for father, mother, brother, but no one answered. There was noise beyond the hut, we could hear trees falling down.“Chekaren and I got out of our sleeping bags and wanted to run out, but then the thunder struck. This was the first thunder. The Earth began to move and rock, wind hit our hut and knocked it over. My body was pushed down by sticks, but my head was in the clear. Then I saw a wonder: trees were falling, the branches were on fire, it became mighty bright, how can I say this, as if there was a second sun, my eyes were hurting, I even closed them. It was like what the Russians call lightning. And immediately there was a loud thunderclap.“This was the second thunder. The morning was sunny, there were no clouds, our Sun was shining brightly as usual, and suddenly there came a second one! “Chekaren and I had some difficulty getting out from under the remains of our hut. Then we saw that above, but in a different place, there was another flash, and loud thunder came. This was the third thunder strike. Wind came again, knocked us off our feet, struck against the fallen trees. “We looked at the fallen trees, watched the tree tops get snapped off, watched the fires.“Suddenly Chekaren yelled ‘Look up’ and pointed with his hand. I looked there and saw another flash, and it made another thunder. But the noise was less than before. This was the fourth strike, like normal thunder. “Now I remember well there was also one more thunder strike, but it was small, and somewhere far away, where the Sun goes to sleep.”The strangest thing about the blast is there was no resulting crater. There was no impact, there was no ground zero and there was no smoking volcano. Nothing. Nobody - and we do mean nobody, knew what it was. The blast was 100 times more powerful than the one that leveled Hiroshima, yet it had no obvious cause. Confusing, right? Here’s what a CNN article said of the matter in an article 100 years later:“Despite countless investigations, the so-called Tunguska Event remains one of the 20th century’s greatest enigmas — seized upon by mystics, UFO enthusiasts and scientists as evidence of angry gods, extraterrestrial life or the impending threat of a cosmic collision.“But says Stanislav Krivyakov, who has spent the past 35 years investigating the Siberian blast, despite intense interest in the event — which has featured in several episodes of “The X-Files” — no conclusive evidence has been found to support any theory.”Like it says there - paranormalists have seized on the blast claiming it to be evidence of aliens, teleportation or something worse. Some, however, believe the whole thing was caused far more locally - by Thomas Edison’s rival Nikola Tesla. According to ArmageddonOnline.org:“It has also been suggested that the Tunguska explosion was the result of an experiment by Nikola Tesla at his Wardenclyffe Tower, performed during Robert Peary’s second North Pole expedition. Tesla had claimed that the tower could be used to transmit electromagnetic energy across large distances. The Wardenclyffe Tower was designed to utilize the largest version of Tesla’s patented magnifying transmitter, popularly known as the Tesla Coil, to transmit electrical power into the earth as well as the upper atmosphere.“In 1908, Tesla allegedly sent a cryptic communication to the American explorer, Robert E. Peary, advising him to be on the alert and make notes of any unusual auroral phenomena encountered as he attempted to reach the North Pole. Allegedly Tesla fired up his transmitter for a trial run and attempted to generate and direct his ethereal oscillations toward the North Pole in the hope of stimulating the polar aurora and perhaps attracting world attention to his invention. It is alleged that Tesla’s trial run coincided with the Tunguska event in Siberia.”This theory is quickly discounted by the scientific community, but it seems as good as any other explanation, if you ask us. The point is nobody knows exactly what happened, and no inquiring scientific minds bothered to check it out until years after the explosion occurred. In a side note - did you know the Tunguska Blast was mentioned in Ghost Busters? Dan Aykroyd refers to the demise of Gozer and all that accompanied it as something like the greatest paranormal event since the Tunguska Blast of 1909.His quote was a year late. That’s all we remember. Chekaren a trop peur.
Scientist Claims Evidence Shows Aliens Saved Earth in Tunguska ExplosionsRussia (ChattahBox) – An interesting story out of Universe Today has a scientist claiming that he found crystals of extraterrestrial origin at the site of the Tunguska explosion of 1908.These alleged crystals point to only one thing, Yuri Lavbin claims: aliens destroyed a massive meteorite that was heading to Earth, in a collision that would have totally destroyed the planet. His only proof are a few odd crystals that he claimed to have found at the Siberian site of the unknown explosion that scientists have long since believed was some kind of meteorite. Some have also dubiously claimed it was the early testing of an atomic weapon. The crystals have holes that link them together, and strange pictures etched into the sides. So far, no actual proof of these crystals have been given, except for a single small photograph lacking detail that was published at Macedonia Online. We will have to wait and see if anything comes from these claims, or if the scientist will conveniently ‘misplace’ the crystals.
UFO 'saved Earth'A Russian scientist has claimed that an alien spaceship sacrificed itself to prevent a gigantic meteor from destroying Earth a century ago.According to The Sun, Dr Yuri Labvin, head of the Tunguska Spatial Phenomenon Foundation, has found quartz slabs with strange markings that he thinks were part of a UFO control panel. He made the discovery near the site of the so-called "Tunguska event" - a massive and so-far unexplained explosion that devastated more than 100 square miles of Siberian forest in June 1908.Dr Labvin claims the slabs provide evidence that a spacecraft deliberately crashed into the meteor to prevent it slamming into Earth and wiping out life on the planet."We don't have any technologies that can print such kind of drawings on crystals," he explains. "We also found ferrum silicate that can not be produced anywhere, except in space."However, Nick Pope, a British UFOlogist who has investigated sightings on behalf of the Ministry of Defence, remains unconvinced. While previous explanations for the explosion include a comet strike or a piece of anti-matter, he told the paper, "This new theory is the strangest yet."We need an analysis of the quartz slabs to be able to prove this one way or another." - ananova.com
UFO crashed into Tunguska meteor to save Earth, says Russian expertLondon, Thu, 28 May 2009London, May 28 (ANI): A Russian scientist claims that a UFO deliberately crashed itself into Tunguska meteor to save Earth from destruction 100 years ago. Dr Yuri Labvin, president of the Tunguska Spatial Phenomenon Foundation, insists that an alien spacecraft sacrificed itself to prevent the gigantic meteor from crashing into the Earth, above Siberia on June 30,1908. He said the clash resulted in what is presently known as Tunguska event - a massive blast estimated at 15 megatons that destroyed 80million trees over nearly 100 square miles, however, no one was killed. Labvin believes that quartz slabs with strange markings found at the site are leftovers of an alien control panel, which fell to the ground after the UFO crashed into the giant rock. "We don't have any technologies that can print such kind of drawings on crystals," the Sun quoted Labvin as saying. "We also found ferrum silicate that cannot be produced anywhere, except in space," he added. "The Tunguska explosion is one of the world's greatest mysteries," Brit UFO expert Nick Pope, who headed the Ministry of Defence's UFO investigation team from 1991-1994, said. "Previous theories suggest it was caused by an impact from a comet, a mini black hole or a piece of anti-matter. This new theory is the strangest yet. "We need an analysis of the quartz slabs to be able to prove this one way or another," he added. (ANI)
Russian scientist: Alien sacrifice saved earthThu, 28 May 2009 10:34:25 GMT Tunguska event A Russian scientist is claiming that aliens downed Tunguska meteorite in 1908, causing a massive explosion in Siberia to protect the earth from destruction. Dr. Yuriy Lavbin, president of the Tunguska Spatial Phenomenon Foundation, insists that if an alien spacecraft had failed to place itself between our planet and the gigantic meteorite a century ago, the full force of collision above Siberia would have been disastrous. He provided 10 recovered quartz crystals collected from the crash site as proof. Several of the crystals have holes in between, so they can be united in a chain. "We don't have any technologies that can print such kind of drawings on crystals," Labvin told the Macedonian International News Agency. "We also found ferrum silicate that can not be produced anywhere, except in space," added the scientist. Labvin thinks the marked quartz slabs are remnants of an alien control panel, which fell to the ground after the UFO slammed into the giant rock. The findings add a new original theory to what most scientists have explained over the years as a meteorite exploding several miles above the surface of the earth. During the Tunguska event, a massive estimated at 15 megatons spread 2,150 square kilometers (830 square miles) downing nearly 80 million trees. The impact left no casualties in the sparsely populated area. Some scientists believed the Tunguska event is the largest impact event on land in the Earth's recent history.
Russian Scientist: UFO Crashed Into Meteorite to Save EarthWednesday, May 27, 2009 APMillions of downed trees ringed the Tunguska site for years after the 1908 explosion.Did a UFO deliberately crash into a meteor to save Earth 100 years ago? That's what one Russian scientist is claiming.Dr. Yuri Labvin, president of the Tunguska Spatial Phenomenon Foundation, insists that an alien spacecraft sacrificed itself to prevent a gigantic meteor from slamming into the planet above Siberia on June 30, 1908.The result was was the Tunguska event, a massive blast estimated at 15 megatons that downed 80 million trees over nearly 100 square miles. Eyewitnesses reported a bright light and a huge shock wave, but the area was so sparsely populated no one was killed. Most scientists think the blast was caused by a meteorite exploding several miles above the surface. But Labvin thinks quartz slabs with strange markings found at the site are remnants of an alien control panel, which fell to the ground after the UFO slammed into the giant rock."We don't have any technologies that can print such kind of drawings on crystals," Labvin told the Macedonian International News Agency. "We also found ferrum silicate that can not be produced anywhere, except in space."
Russian Scientist: UFO collided with Tunguska Meteorite to save Earth Tuesday, 26 May 2009 Aliens downed Tunguska meteorite to protect our planet from devastation, stated Russian scientist Yuriy Lavbin about the 100 year old mystery surrounding the massive Siberian explosion. He showed 10 quartz crystals that he found at the place of the meteorite’s crash. Several of the crystals have holes in between, so they can be united in a chain.- What could this chain serve for? Besides, some crystals have strange drawings on them. We don’t have any technologies that can print such kind of drawings on crystals. We also found ferrum silicate that can not be produced anywhere, except in space”, - the scientist stated. The meteorite’s crash took place a long time ago, in the summer of 1908. An enormous volcanic ball rushed over the sky with terrifying wallop and thunder-like sound. All the citizens were frightened to death and scared to move out of their houses. A flight of a “flamy alien” ended up in an hour in the deserted taiga area. In a matter of seconds an explosive wave spread for 40 kilometers, devastating everything living around. It was not until many years later that a Siberian scientist set up an expedition to the place of the meteorite’s crash. They searched carefully through the river banks and found unusual quartz boards. Mr. Lavbin states that such solid stones do not exist on our planet Earth. He told of an experiment that was done on the crystals: scientists tried to put some of the same drawing that were on the stones initially with a sophisticated laser machine. How surprised they were to realize that the laser (that usually cuts metal objects into pieces) managed to put just some faint stripes, barely visible. The stones, have an entire system of different lines and circles on them. Scientists suppose that the stones used to be a part of the navigational system of a spaceship. All stones united form a map, which they could have used to cruise through the Universe. In 1908, the UFO is thought to have hit the meteorite that weighed over 1 billion tones. If the meteorite fell down on Earth, all the people would have been dead, extinct. Scientists believe the aliens had interfered and put their lives on the line to make sure there isn't a direct impact with Earth. A strange portrait of an extraterrestrial person on one of the stones proves this hypothesis - concluded Mr Lavbin.
Scientist Claims UFO Collided with Tunguska Meteorite to Save EarthWritten by Nancy AtkinsonCaption: Supposedly, the Tunguska crytals. Credit: MinaClassify this under new of the weird. A Russian scientist claims that aliens downed the Tunguska meteorite 101 years ago to protect our planet from devastation. Yuri Lavbin says he found unusual quartz crystals at the site of the massive Siberian explosion. Ten crystals have holes in them, placed so the stones can be united in a chain, and other have drawings on them. “We don’t have any technologies that can print such kind of drawings on crystals,” said Lavbin. “We also found ferrum silicate that can not be produced anywhere, except in space.” OK, just a few holes in this story, too.Caption: Photograph from the Soviet Academy of Science 1927 expedition led by Leonid KulikThe Tunguska Event was a powerful explosion that occurred in an uninhabited and desolate area near the Tunguska River in Russia, on June 30, 1908. Although the cause of the explosion is the subject of debate, it is commonly believed to have been caused by the explosion of a large meteoroid or comet fragment, occurring the in Earth’s atmosphere about 5–10 kilometers (3–6 miles) high. The blast flattened an estimated 60 million trees over 2,150 square kilometers, but no crater or “smoking gun” meteorite has ever been found. Different studies have yielded varying estimates of the object’s size, but there is general agreement that it was a few tens of meters across. A couple of expeditions have gone to the remote site of the crash. Lavbin says that one expedition located the unusual crystals. While I’m not a chemist, I couldn’t find any information on “ferrum silicate.” Seemingly, it doesn’t exist. One small, nondescript photo accompanied Lavbin’s claims, published by the Macedonian International News Agency. This isn’t the first time a UFO has been claimed to associated with the Tunguska event. Another report from 2004 said a scientific expedition to the site found blocks of an extraterrestrial technical device, and one 50-kilogram piece of the stone was brought to the city of Krasnoyarsk to be studied and analyzed. No subsequent reports or analysis could be located during an internet search. Other claims of exploding alien spaceships or alien weapons detonating to “save the Earth from an imminent threat” appear to originate from a science fiction story “A Visitor From Outer Space” written by Soviet engineer Alexander Kazantsev in 1946, in which a nuclear-powered Martian spaceship, seeking fresh water from a lake blew up in mid-air. This story was was said to be inspired by Kazantsev’s visit to Hiroshima in late 1945.Many events in Kazantsev’s tale were subsequently confused with the actual occurrences at Tunguska. A “reveal-all” book was published in 1976 (The Fire Came By) but was written by two television drama critics — so much for a scientific background. In 1998 the television series The Secret KGB UFO Files was broadcast on Turner Network Television, and referred to the Tunguska event as “the Russian Roswell” and claimed that crashed UFO debris had been recovered from the site. However, not one proponent of the Tunguska/UFO hypothesis have ever been able to provide any significant evidence for their claims.Lavbin says the stones, when put together form a map, and might be part of a navigational system of a spaceship. But Lavbin says what proves his hypothesis is a strange portrait of a strange person on one of the stones. Hmm, strange looking person on a stone….sounds like….pareidolia. Check out the Bad Astronomer’s take on that phenomenon.Just as in any other UFO claim, this one fails to deliver any evidence.
